What is BASOTI?
BASOTI is an intensive opera singer development program, which trains pre-professional singers for a career in opera.
By immersing young singers into unique and diverse public performances we believe the performers can discover what techniques they need to concentrate on.
- Singers learn to recognize patterns that hold themselves back from being fully self-expressed in front of audiences.
- We provide training and feed-back from top professionals in the field of opera.
- We have an effective venue as well as exciting performance spaces at the new Conservatory of Music in San Francisco Civic Center.
- The faculty works in close cooperation with the students to develop self-expression and techniques to achieve professional excellence on all levels.
- BASOTI gives workshops in understanding management, career counseling,
and how to balance career, and outside work and family.
- For scholarship participants we have additional experience in back-stage responsibilities and classes for set-building, ticket management, costume design.
We believe that through deepening our students' sense of artistic fulfillment, and through high-quality public performances, BASOTI contributes to the preservation of opera as a vital and contemporary art form in the Bay Area and worldwide.
WHAT IS OFFERED for the TUITION FEE?
BASOTI's new THREE-LEVEL program allows each singer to grow as an artist at the appropriate level with the guidance and support of the professional faculty.
- Level One offers the singer who has had no previous summer opera program experience the opportunity to prepare and present two opera scenes, and an appearance on the Liederabend or Aria Afternoon.
- Level Two provides those with some workshop experience who wish to refine their skills, two opera scenes and a smaller role in an opera production and an appearance on the Liederabend or Aria Afternoon.
- Level Three provides experienced singers the opportunity to study and perform a larger role in an opera production. BASOTI alumni and accomplished singers are encouraged to audition for opera roles in the 2008 SEASON. Repertoire will be chosen according to the singers who audition.
