BASOTI AlumniBASOTI Alumni are making their mark!Elza van den Heever, Soprano, BASOTI 2002, accepted into the Merola Program of the San Francisco Opera 2003, and now an Adler Fellow, made her Main Stage debut at the Opera House as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni followed by Mrs. Robert E. Lee in the World Premiere of Philipp Glass' Appomattox. She will commence a guest contract at the Frankfurt Opera in December, 2007. She was honored in June 2004 representing the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in a recital at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Her roles favorite roles have been the Female Chorus in Rape of Lucretia, Ottavia in Coronation of Poppea, the title roles in Ariodante and Dido, Miss Todd in Old Maid and the Thief, and Niklausse in Tales of Hoffmann. She also is a sought-after recitalist.
Letitia Singleton, BASOTI 2003, was accepted into the Young Artists Apprentice Program of the Paris Opera.
Nili Riemer, BASOTI 1999, was accepted to the Tri-Cities Opera Resident Artist Program in Binghamton, New York, where she sang the role of Marie in Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment. Nili recently sang Gretel in Hansel and Gretel as well as Monica in The Medium. She was a recipient of the prestigious Career Bridges award in New York City. Recently she sang Olympia in "The Tales of Hoffmann" and the title role in "Lucia di Lammermoor."
Jonathan Smucker, BASOTI 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, has had multiple jobs around the Bay Area singing such roles as Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress in Oakland and Frantz in the opening of the California Academy of Opera, run by BASOTI faculty member, Yefim Maizel.
Patrizia Polochovitz , BASOTI 2005, can be heard as Papagena in the West Bay Opera production of The Magic Flute.
Elena McEntire, BASOTI 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, formerly, Ellen Cowan, is being flown out from New York top perform on Oct 18th at the San Francisco Opera House Fund Raiser with Frederike von Stade, and a famous group of Latin American musicians to raise money for a benefit concert celebrating the work of the Camp Hill communities in North America. She will also be singing with Rodney Gilfrey.
Percy Martinez, BASOTI 2004, was accepted into two prestigious summer programs for the summer of 2005: Sarasota Opera and Santa Fe Opera. BASOTI congratulates him on his accomplishments. He also sang Des Grieux in "Manon Lescaut" at West Bay Opera. Mr. Martinez will be singing Don Jose in a new production of Carment at the Pacific Opera Company.
Patricia Barboza, BASOTI 2003, 2004, 2005, won second prize in the East Bay Opera League competition. She recently appeared as the Mother in Hansel and Gretel with Townsend Opera as well as the Fiordiligi in "Cosi fan tutte", and appeared at the Cinnabar Opera as Santuzza in "Cavalleria Rusticana."
Kathleen Sisco, BASOTI 1999 to 2005, recently performed the leading role in Puccini's "Girl of the Golden West" at Cinnabar Opera.
Alan Cochran, tenor, BASOTI 2002, 2003, recently performed the title role in The Rake's Progress for the Oakland Lyric Opera. He is also a full time member of the San Francisco Opera Chorus.
Erica Olden, BASOTI 2002, 2003, recently sang Miss Todd in a performance of Old Maid and the Thief at the Dean Lesher Center for the Arts, and the Zita in Gianni Schicchi for Golden Gate Opera at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
Katherine Growden, mezzo-soprano, BASOTI 2004, was heard in the role of Baba the Turk in the Oakland Lyric Opera's production of Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress.
Stephanie Weiss, soprano, BASOTI 2004, has signed a main-stage contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Among other roles she will be heard as the First Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute. Daniella Boehm, BASOTI 1998, after successful runs of Third Lady in The Magic Flute in Munich, the title role in Carmen, and Haensel in Linz Theater, Austria, is off to The Salzburg Festival to sing in Jedermann, as well as a contemporary piece in Switzerland. |
